So what makes a good website? That has been my essential question for my 5th graders over the last couple of weeks. We have been working on website evaluation and what factors make a website a good choice to use for research. We based our initial lessons off of a Common Sense Media Lesson and then used their check list to rate websites. But the part that the 5th graders have been the most engrossed in for the last three weeks has been using animoto to create an advertisement for a really good website for research. I let them choose their topics so some groups are advertising the best website to research Daniel Radcliffe or the best website to research the Greek god Poseidon. One group is doing the best website to research Big Foot! Its great to see them using their critical thinking skills not only in evaluating the websites but also in designing their advertisements and how to really advertise their website to get others to use it. In a few weeks in December after we have watched all of them I will post some of the best here! So stay tuned for future updates.

During checkout time in the library after students check out books they have the opportunity to participate in various library centers. All of the centers are hands-on ways to explore either creative or critical thinking. Here are some pictures from Tuesday's centers. :)
